MEET OUR COACH, KATE ENICKS, MS

I started my career teaching third graders in Philadelphia before getting my Master's Degree from Villanova University in School Counseling.  I worked as a school counselor until I moved to Boston. I now work at a therapeutic residential school program where I coach neurodivergent teens and young adults transitioning from school-age to post-secondary living. I primarily focus on career-related interest identification, planning, and skill building.  This work is done through 1:1 sessions, as well as through direct support in the field as needed.   

 

Through my work and personal experiences, I can confirm that the one constant in life is change. While change can be exhilarating, it can also feel chaotic, making it difficult to remain focused and motivated.

 

People in their late teens and early twenties are faced with many transition questions. Do I want to go to college? If so, what kind of college? Where do I want to live? What are my career options/preferences? How will I transport myself to my adult responsibilities? Do I qualify for any adult services (SSI, MRC, DDS, DMH, Section 8 housing, SNAP benefits)?

Change doesn’t stop there. As adults, we’re too often faced with unexpected changes—loss of a job, loss of a spouse, divorce, retirement, and so many more. 

 

The responsibilities of a transition coach are to help clients identify their passions, strengths, interests, and core beliefs so they can set new, realistic goals and make plans to achieve them. Transition coaches also help clients identify and overcome obstacles by teaching them coping skills. Clients should feel supported throughout the process which will in turn result in feelings of empowerment and increased confidence, resulting in successful transitions.

  • What is Coaching?
    Coaching is when an individual works with a trained professional in a process of self-discovery and self-awareness. Throughout the process, the coach helps the individual to identify areas of strength and areas of need in order to develop goals and create a plan for attaining those goals. The coach is able to support individuals with accountability to follow the plan and make progress on goals, and overall a better quality of life. The one constant in life is change. While change can be good, it can also feel chaotic, making it difficult to remain focused and motivated. We know we are in a time where people need more support with all the changes we continue to experience globally in the last few years.
  • Who is Coaching for?
    Coaching is for everyone! It’s an individualized process that can support growth and provide sustainable change.
  • How would Coaching benefit me verse the cost and time commitment?
    Coaching is an investment that keeps on giving. What you put into it with time, finances, and effort, you get back during the coaching process and the continued benefits over your career or personal life. Coaching is a partnership between you and your coach, who will gently encourage you to explore how to make positive changes in your life based on your goals. A coach will offer support and feedback to help you to stay focused on your goals and will occasionally set you tasks and objectives to work on outside of sessions.
  • How is Coaching different from therapy?
    Therapy is focused on mental health care, which can look like symptom management or reduction, identifying patterns in thoughts or behaviors or patterns in relation to others. Coaching is focused on the here and now and next steps in a defined and goal oriented way. Many individuals may benefit from both coaching and therapy to focus on different areas of their lives. Coaching and therapy can overlap in some ways as both will focus on goals and skill development.
  • What goals might I work on in Coaching?
    This is individualized for every person and will be developed in collaboration with your coach. Some areas of focus may be: adjusting to “adulting” and managing bills and appointments in addition to college or a job support with balancing academics and making a decision about college or a gap year Preparing for retirement and the highs and lows that come with it A second career path and career exploration Adjusting to parenthood and balancing responsibilities with identity loss and rediscovery Loss of a spouse or parent and support for making arrangements and tackling this change Improving your life with goals of health, identifying hobbies, or finding joy Support for a young adult with disabilities- how to provide structure and meaning post-age 22 when education services have stopped Support for a family member with disabilities and navigating the state systems: DMH, DDS, MRC, SNAP benefits, SSI, and Section 8 housing
  • How many Coaching sessions will I need?
    As many or as little as you like! There is no time requirement, and all is up to you and what you and your coach believe you will benefit from.
  • How much does it cost?
    Our coach is offering 60-minute sessions for $150.
